For Patients

What to Expect

Advanced Diagnostics offers unprecedented standards of patient care and attention. Expect ample parking, superior customer service, and a comfortable, clean, friendly environment.

Preparation

If possible, your physician should send related previous films and reports to us prior to the day of your MRI exam. These films will assist the radiologist in the interpretation of your MRI exam.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment for registration. Unless specified by your physician, there is no special diet or fasting necessary.

When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted by a receptionist, who will assist with any billing or insurance questions. We will ask for your medical history and explain the Stand-Up MRI process. You will be required to read and sign specific MRI forms prior to your procedure. The technologist will review your paperwork and then begin your examination.

Most scans take between 20 to 60 minutes, depending on the physician's instructions and upon the anatomy or condition for which the patient is being scanned. You may be able to wear your own clothes, depending on any metal content.  It is suggested you wear comfortable clothing, like sweats with no metal,  or a pair of comfortable scrubs will be provided. During your scan you will watch a 42" TV and be able to see the technologist through a window.

  • Only true open MRI.
  • Weight-bearing MRI with patients standing or sitting.
  • Ultimate in openness, non-claustrophobic.
  • More accurate diagnoses than traditional MRI technology.
  • Scan patients upright in the position of their symptoms.
  • Patient convenience: walk in, sit or stand during the scan and walk out.
  • Patients watch a 42" TV while being scanned.

Safety

For the vast majority of people, there is no danger associated with having an MRI scan. However, advise your technologist if you have any of the following:

  • aneurysm clips, rods, screws, or metal plates
  • artificial cardiac valves
  • bone or joint replacement
  • metal fragments
  • pregnancy or nursing
  • previous surgery (brain, eye, ear)
  • hearing aids
  • dentures
  • wire mesh stents/coils
  • other embedded metallic objects
  • patients with cardiac/pacemakers or implanted defibrillators cannot be examined using MRI

Side Effects

Magnetic resonance imaging has no known side effects.
